The area where most "newbies" go wrong, is in the title anchor and the description. I think you have given them a good guideline to follow to gain the most out of their submissions.

In terms of the title, in addition to that all important 5 word maximum limit, I would suggest not to use separators (like the pipe "|") as they are an indication to a directory owner that you are trying to sneak 2 titles into 1. Also, if you find that one title doesn't cover your keyword range then create another title and rotate between these titles when you submit.

The description is often done badly because people make it both biased and personal. The use of "sales pitch" language is also a mistake that most people make, and all it does is get them a rejection. Then they wonder why no one adds their sites, and they denounce the directories as useless, when in fact they just do not understand the procedures. The simplest descriptions are always the best. You just want to tell people what your site offers in a nutshell. The points you have reaised are useful in guiding a submitter to creating a well-written description.

Great article - well done :)

@ Sanjeev, many scripts treat a sub domian as an internal page and do not allow the user to submit it. The problem is not with your submission but the way the admin has set the directory options.
