So this one was due for quite some time.

I had promised Rob this review a few months back but never got the chance to actually write it.

Here we have one of my favorite Blog Directory: Bloggeries.com

bloggeries.jpgI remember the days when I first interacted with web directories and one of the designs that stood out was that of Bloggeries. At that time very few directories were custome designed and even if they were, it would have been a basic design that was not so attractive.

Bloggeries has been around since 2005 and has become one of the better know blog directories.

Design & Layout: The current layout stands strong with the use of a three column layout with a  neat color mix that matches well. Howver, the category fonts look a little out of place and different font sizes could be experimented with and also the category preview could be styled a little better. A good design overall.

They also have integrated some mods like the latest submitted links and the keyword tages to add appeal and functionality for the directory user.

A 6.5/10 for this design as per my preferences.

Value for money: If you have a blog and have a few bucks saved for promotion, I would highly recommend submitting to Bloggeries. The prices are very fair for a well promoted directory. They charge $ 14.99 anually for a featured listing and $ 9.99 for a permanent regular listing. I would recommend a regular listing for a permanent placement in the web index. However, it just got better with the new option of free reciprocal submission, which I would also consider as a smart long term option for all blog directory owners.

Bloggeries has a Google PR 5 and considering that they managed to sustain a high PR after the recent google onslaught, I would have to say that they did have a strong backlink portfolio that ensured the same. Also, one of the signs of a better directory is the category page ranks which can be observed in Bloggeris.

A point to observe here is that that have PR on level two deep links which are not even linked from the homepage, which I would say is a good sign if one is looking to get a good backlink to their blogs.

Also if you observe, you will notice that they sort the links as per hits and not the usually Pagerank sorting followed by many directory owners. This ensures that all the weblinks, irrespective of pagerank get full visibility within the directory index.

Looking at the detail page for the listings, I thought that a lot more can be added in terms of adding the social appeal. Maybe a bookmarking option would be nice and if one could come up with a spam block, a comment option would add that extra appeal.

An overall 9/10 in terms of value add. Highly recommend for making a submission.

Add ons & Extras: Now I would not usually give a 9/10 for a value add, but Blogeries.com gets it from DT because of the effort thet have put in developing a user base that would actually be interested in clicking the links in the directory index.

They have achieved this by ensure that they promote their directory as a blogger resource and not just a mere link dump. At Blogerries you will find a Blogger Forum, Free Blog polls and also a chance for bloggers to have their blogs reviewed at bloggeries.

For value add I would rate them at a 5/10, which again is quite high as per the comparitive index where most directories would score a zero.

I would love to see much happen at Blogerries.com as Rob has much opportunity to take his directory much higher in terms of mass appeal.

Closing the review with an answer that most would be wanting to know:

What is the meaning of Bloggeries ?

The term “Bloggeries” refers to the posts inside a blog. The blog is the aggregate of all the bloggeries along with a layout / design. The actual posts within the blog are what “bloggeries” actually are.
