I have got a few curious PM’s on my PR downgrade and people are willing to know my course of actions and some are also sympathizing with me.
Well I admit that’s the bad news is that our PR for this blog was downgraded, but the good news is that “better now than later”.
Seriously guys I am not going to whine and curse about my PR downgrade as primarily it was my mistake to begin with.
Choosing a business model based on PR dependent text link sale sucked from the very beginning itself.
It was surely aimed at making a quick buck but now I am wiser. Analyzing my sites where I worked hard on developing traffic, I am selling ad space at twice the prices and it sure feels good.
Many people are asking for an alternate plan of action, and well all I can say is that working on building site traffic is one long term plan to start with. (My Google Adsense pay checks are getting bigger)
Traffic sells like hot cakes and trust me when I say that it is much easier to sell ad space by bragging about your traffic.
Now analyzing the situation is respect to web directories, the recent google update surely will have a negative impact on the directory market, where most of the players are riding the link sale bandwagon.
A lot of bigger directories have been penalized and the picture is not looking any better for the future. However, the good news is that many directories are surviving and are looking strong.
Only the next few google SERR/PR update will make things clearer.
If you are a directory owner, then here are a few pointers that you could follow to avoid raising a flag with Google.
1. Avoid excessive sitewide links with provocative anchor text “PR 6 Links”
2. Go slow on your link building campaign
3. Avoid category dumps
4. Avoid empty categories
5. Avoid cross linking
6. Maintain editorial integrity when approving a listing, no SPAM.
7. Do not go bragging and promoting the high PR of your directory, keep its
subtle.
8. Aim at natural link building via link baiting (my most recommended)
9. Add content to your directory, a stand alone link index will be a thing of the past soon and Google’s primary target.
Follow these basis tips to keep your directory off the SE demolition radar.
Much success to all off us.
